Ly Dumas - Tisser la vie

From January 16 to March 7, 2025 - Maison Gacha, Paris, France

Weaving Life marks the opening of Maison Gacha, a space dedicated to handcrafts and their dialogue with contemporary creation. This first exhibition puts traditional African work of textile art — bogolan from Mali, rabal from Senegal, baoulé fabrics from Côte d’Ivoire — into perspective with the fashion creations of Ly Dumas.

Under our fingers, threads cross and trace stories. From Cameroon « ndop’s » deep indigo to the textured relief of Kassai velvets or Democratic Republic of Congo Kuba’s loincloths, textiles speak, as do the hands that shaped them.

In this exchange, the textiles unfold like living archives, bearing a woven, embroidered and dyed memory. With her unique vision, Ly Dumas ensures that every seam is in dialogue with legacy, that every fold reveals an encounter — visible and invisible, tangible and intangible.

In celebrating these correspondences, Weaving Life invites us to see these textiles not just as a material, but as a space of transmission and transforma - tion, between memory and future.
